A guide from ig. design & interiors
Before You Build
Seven questions worth answering before your architect draws anything.
Your architect will ask what you want. They are unlikely to ask how you live.
That is not a criticism. An architect is solving structure, light and planning permission. But what comes back is permission to build a space, not an answer to how you will use it - and the gap between those two things is where the money goes.
This guide closes that gap. Seven questions, each with a worked example so you can see what a useful answer looks like, and what it changes if you answer it before the first drawing rather than after the walls are up.
What is inside
- What has not worked - and what do you want to do differently?
- What are you keeping?
- Where does everything live?
- What happens in each room, and when?
+ three more, including the one about your budget that nobody asks.
Who it is for
Anyone building, extending or renovating a home - and most useful if you have not appointed an architect yet, or have drawings you are not certain about. Nothing in it is technical. You already know most of the answers.
